Custom taxonomies allow you to organize your product catalog more flexibly and provide powerful filtering tools for your customers. You can create custom filters that match your business needs exactly.

๐Ÿ— Where to Create Custom Taxonomies

  1. Go to the โ€œTaxonomiesโ€ section in the Botoscope admin panel.
  2. At the bottom of the page, find the โ€œAdd Product Taxonomyโ€ or “Product attribute” form.
  3. Enter:
    • Name (e.g., โ€œLocationโ€, โ€œGenderโ€, …)
  4. Click Save.

โ—๏ธTip: You can create any structure you need. For example:

  • Location โ†’ Country, City, District (taxonomy)
  • Material โ†’ Leather, Cotton, Denim (attribute)

๐Ÿ› How to Use Product Taxonomies and attributes in Products

  1. After the taxonomy is created, it will appear in the product editor.
  2. Select one or multiple terms (values) from this taxonomy for each product.
  3. You can assign:
    • Single value (e.g., โ€œCountry โ€” Franceโ€)
    • Or multiple values (e.g., โ€œMaterial โ€” Leather, Cottonโ€)

๐ŸŽฏ How to Enable them in Filter

  1. Go to the โ€œFilterโ€ section in the admin panel.
  2. Find your custom taxonomy in the available filter list.
  3. Enable the checkbox
  4. Optionally, adjust the display order.

Now your taxonomy will appear in the Telegram bot as a filter option.

๐Ÿงต Custom Attributes (Pseudo-taxonomies)

Sometimes it makes sense to create an extra classification that is not a category, but a product characteristic:

Examples:

  • Material Type: Leather, Cotton, Denim
  • Gender: Men, Women, Unisex
  • Closure Type: Zipper, Buttons, Velcro

These are created the same way โ€” via the Taxonomies section.

๐Ÿ†š Attributes vs. Custom Taxonomies โ€” What’s the Difference?

Product Attributes and Product Taxonomies serve different purposes in Botoscope:

  • Attributes can:
    • Be used to create product variations (e.g., Size, Material)
    • Affect pricing โ€” for example, Leather might cost more than Cotton
    • Be enabled as filters in the Telegram bot
  • Product Taxonomies are:
    • Used only for filtering and classification (e.g., Country, Brand, Season)
    • They do not affect pricing or variation logic

In short: Attributes define how a product is sold (including price and options), while taxonomies describe what a product is and help with search and filtering.

๐Ÿ’ก Why Use Product Taxonomies?

  • They improve product search and navigation.
  • Let customers quickly narrow down what they need.
  • Make the catalog more structured and user-friendly.
  • Simplify backend sorting and product management.
  • Boost customer engagement and reduce bounce rate.

Example: If you have 100+ products, filters like โ€œFabric Typeโ€, โ€œCityโ€, โ€œCountry of Originโ€, or โ€œColorโ€ make it much easier for customers to find exactly what theyโ€™re looking for.
